Lebanon’s Solid Waste staff is always busy receiving and managing waste and recycling from Upper Valley households. The staff works hard to simplify the process and new signs were installed last year to improve communication with facility users.
Unfortunately, there are times when our messaging is missed. Last weekend, we received several boxes of crushed styrofoam mixed with cardboard. Styrofoam is a major contaminant with cardboard and is not collected for recycling at the Lebanon Recycling Center; it is disposed of in the landfill. A lot of the cardboard had to be disposed of instead of recycled. Also found in the cardboard was a full case of unused K-cups. Although it smelled great, it made a large mess and caused the need for recyclable cardboard to be thrown out.
When recycling, please separate items correctly. The “What Goes Where?” webpage provides a lot of information to help with recycling. The Solid Waste Division also created a recycling app to help identify what is and is not recyclable at the Lebanon Recycling Center.
