Mac Burke from Dartmouth baseball and Sydney Herrman from softball were named The Richards Group Athletes of the Week for their recent performances, according to an announcement on April 14.
The weekly recognition by DartmouthSports.com highlights two student-athletes—one male and one female—for outstanding achievements in their respective sports.
Burke, a senior from Woodbridge, Connecticut, made two appearances out of the bullpen for the Big Green baseball team over the weekend. In the first game against Brown, he pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits to secure a 4-0 win and earn his fourth save of the season. During the series finale, Burke struck out all three batters he faced in a single inning without giving up any runs. He currently holds a 2.37 earned run average (ERA), which is second-best on his team, and leads with a .188 opposing batting average.
Herrman, a first-year infielder from Greenwood, Indiana, played an important role in Dartmouth softball’s close 15-14 win over Cornell on Sunday. She contributed four runs batted in (RBIs) and scored twice while going three-for-three at bat. Herrman began scoring with an RBI double, added another run with an RBI single later in the game, and drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with her final RBI single. For the week she led her team with a .555 batting average and .667 slugging percentage.
The Athlete of the Week feature will continue throughout the season as part of DartmouthSports.com’s ongoing effort to recognize athletic excellence among its students.
