Dartmouth baseball secured a 3-1 victory over the Navy Midshipmen in Annapolis, Maryland, on Friday, marking its first win against Navy since 2008. The result moves Dartmouth to a 3-4 record for the season.
The Big Green took an early lead in the first inning. Nico Bañez reached base on an error and stole second before Taer Rodriguez doubled down the first base line to bring Bañez home. Axel Riess followed with another double, scoring Rodriguez and giving Dartmouth a 2-0 advantage.
Navy responded in the bottom of the first with a solo home run, cutting Dartmouth’s lead to one run. Both teams threatened to score in subsequent innings but were unable to capitalize. Navy loaded the bases in the third inning with a single and two walks but could not score as Dartmouth escaped without damage.
In the fourth inning, Dartmouth’s Alejandro Puig advanced to third on a wild pitch and attempted to steal home during some confusion from Navy’s defense but was tagged out at the plate. Navy also put runners in scoring position during their half of the fourth but failed to bring them around.
Dartmouth added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Milo Suarez walked, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Camden Rush, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Puig’s groundout.
The Big Green had another opportunity in the eighth by loading the bases with three walks, forcing Navy into a pitching change. However, Navy managed to escape further trouble without allowing additional runs.
On defense, Izzy Parsky started for Dartmouth and allowed just one run on four hits across four innings while striking out three batters and walking four. Trey Sejnoha came on in relief during the fifth inning and earned his second win of the season after pitching 3.2 innings with five strikeouts while allowing only one hit. Mac Burke closed out the game for Dartmouth with 1.1 scoreless innings, securing his second save of the year and adding two strikeouts.
