The Dartmouth Big Green competed in three regattas during the second weekend of the spring season, according to a March 23 announcement. The team participated in the Aaron Szambecki Team Race, Blaire Herron Memorial Women’s Team Race, and Seahawk Team Race.
These events provided opportunities for Dartmouth sailors to test their skills against strong competition and prepare for upcoming races. The results from each regatta reflect the team’s ongoing efforts as they progress through the spring schedule.
At the Aaron Szambecki Team Race hosted by Georgetown, Dartmouth finished with an overall record of 8-5, placing fifth. Saturday’s conditions included sunny skies and a break of wind that eventually filled in, allowing for 53 races to be completed. In Round 1, Dartmouth went 6-3 with losses only to Navy, Stanford, and Tulane. On Sunday, shifting winds led to a change in race format; Dartmouth posted a 2-2 record in Top 5 sailing and avenged previous losses to Stanford and Tulane.
In the Blaire Herron Memorial Women’s Team Race—also hosted by Georgetown—the Big Green achieved their highest finish of the weekend by taking third place overall. They went 6-4 over two days: winning four out of seven races on Saturday against Cornell, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Navy, and Old Dominion; then securing two more victories on Sunday against Cornell and Georgetown during Top 4 racing under light wind conditions.
During their third event at the Seahawk Team Race, Dartmouth recorded a fourth-place finish with a total record of 5-10 across three rounds.
Looking ahead to next weekend’s competitions, Dartmouth will participate in three additional regattas: Marchiando Team Race (Cambridge), Dellenbaugh Women’s Team Race (Providence), and Jumbo Team Race (Medford).
