The Dartmouth softball team defeated Holy Cross 11-2 in a run-rule victory on April 8 at Freshman Field in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The win marks a strong performance for Dartmouth as the team continues its season. The game was decided after six innings due to the run-rule, highlighting Dartmouth’s offensive momentum and pitching strength.
Dartmouth opened the scoring in the first inning when Lauren Ben-Ezra tripled and later scored on a play involving Faby Serna. Serna went on to have a significant impact, hitting a two-run home run in the third inning and adding another solo homer in the fifth, giving Dartmouth a solid lead. The Big Green extended their advantage with a six-run sixth inning featuring key hits from Scarlett Nagy, Ben-Ezra, Ava Davis, and Hayvin Barclay.
Isabel Kirby pitched 5.2 scoreless innings for Dartmouth, allowing only two hits and striking out four batters before Holy Cross managed to score twice late in the game. Despite this effort by Holy Cross, Dartmouth’s offense had already secured enough runs for an early finish under run-rule conditions.
Looking ahead, Dartmouth will return home to host Cornell during Eight Against Hate weekend. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday and conclude with another matchup on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
