Dartmouth women’s tennis defeated Harvard 4-3 at the Boss Tennis Center in Hanover on Mar. 30, marking their first win over the Crimson since 2016.
The match opened Ivy League play for Dartmouth, which now holds a 12-4 overall record and is undefeated in conference competition. The victory also extends Dartmouth’s winning streak to three matches and maintains their perfect home record at seven wins with no losses.
In doubles action, Sam Grosjean and Alexandra Orlins secured a win at second doubles with a score of 6-4. Josephine Lombardi and Elise Wong fell in third doubles, while Peyton Capuano and Michela Moore were narrowly defeated at first doubles, resulting in Harvard taking the doubles point.
Singles play saw strong performances from Dartmouth. Orlins quickly won her match in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), followed by Capuano’s dominant showing (6-3, 6-0). After Lombardi lost her singles match (2-6, 3-6) to even the overall score, Moore reclaimed the lead for Dartmouth with another straight-set victory (6-2, 6-3). Grosjean was defeated after a close tiebreaker at fifth singles.
With the teams tied at three points each, sophomore Lauren Han clinched the deciding fourth singles match. Han dropped her opening set but rallied to win the next two sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), securing Dartmouth’s historic victory over Harvard.
Dartmouth will continue Ivy League play on Saturday, April 4 against Penn. The away match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
