Dartmouth women’s tennis recorded a 1-1 record over the weekend of April 6, playing away matches against the Penn Quakers and Princeton Tigers.
The results are significant as they ended a three-match losing streak for Dartmouth with their win over Penn, improving their overall season record to 13-5 and their Ivy League standing to 2-1.
On Saturday in Philadelphia, Dartmouth secured the doubles point by winning both first and second doubles matches. Sam Grosjean and Alexandra Orlins won at second doubles, while Peyton Capuano and Michela Moore took first doubles. Josephine Lombardi and Elise Wong were leading in third doubles when the point was clinched. In singles play, Moore won her match at second singles, Capuano claimed victory at first singles after a tiebreaker in the opening set, and Orlins secured the overall win for Dartmouth with a three-set victory at third singles. Matches involving Grosjean (fifth singles) and Lombardi (sixth singles) went unfinished after Dartmouth clinched the team win.
Sunday’s match against Princeton saw Lombardi and Wong claim third doubles before Orlins paired with Grosjean for a win at second doubles to secure another early point. However, in singles play, Lauren Han lost her fourth-singles match; Caroline Lemcke fell at sixth singles; Orlins was defeated at third singles; and Moore lost her match at second singles as Princeton clinched victory. The remaining matches for Capuano (first singles) and Grosjean (fifth singles) were left unfinished after Princeton secured enough points.
Dartmouth will resume Ivy League play next weekend when they host Yale on Friday, April 10 in Hanover. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
