The City of Lebanon announced on Apr. 10 a construction update for the Mechanic/Mascoma/High Street Roundabout Project, outlining work scheduled for the week of April 13, 2026.
The update matters to residents and commuters as it details upcoming changes to traffic patterns and utility work in a busy area. Safety instructions and timelines are included to help minimize disruption.
According to the announcement, Fairway Electric will continue removing existing utility poles, installing new ones, and transferring Liberty’s utilities. Property owners will be contacted directly if any power outages are expected during this process.
Jersey barriers and temporary line striping are planned for installation on Monday (April 13) or Tuesday (April 14), depending on weather conditions. This includes street sweeping on the north side of Mechanic Street, placing barriers near the driveway at 1 Mechanic Street (formerly Napa Auto Parts), and applying temporary white fog lines along with double-yellow centerline striping. The city advises caution in the work zone and asks drivers to follow flagger instructions.
Additionally, as part of preparations for roundabout construction, there will be a temporary detour of the Mascoma Street sidewalk on the south side (Eastman Automotive side) to the north side (Tanglez N Tanz side) between Granite Street and the crosswalk leading to Mascoma River Greenway.
Once these preliminary tasks are completed, full-scale roundabout construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 27, continuing until a winter shutdown around Thanksgiving. Final paving and cleanup activities will resume in spring 2027 with anticipated completion by May 14, 2027.
