Town of Sunapee issued the following announcement on August 26.
Trask Brook Road Bridge was closed on Friday July 30th due to a significant storm event that occurred on July 29th that caused severe damage to the bridge. After closing the bridge, the Highway Director and Town Manager met with a structural engineer from HEB Engineers to assess the damage on the bridge and the bridge will remain closed until further notice. We are currently working to develop the options and estimated costs that are available for replacing, repairing, or discontinuing the bridge for discussion with abutters of Trask Brook Road (including those in Newport), the Board of Selectmen and FEMA. We will begin more detailed communications with the abutters of Trask Brook Road as the options and estimated costs are developed. Moving forward our intent will be to work with the abutters for input, FEMA to determine is federal funds may be available to assist with the bridge, and with the Board of Selectmen for approval of one of the project options for the bridge. Thank you for your patience while this road closure is in effect, and do not hesitate to contact Scott Hazelton, Highway Director, at (603)763-5060 or via e-mail at: scotth@town.sunapee.nh.us if you have any questions.
Thank You,
Scott A. Hazelton
Highway Director
