City of Lebanon issued the following announcement on March 30.
Reduce, REUSE, Recycle! During the month of April, we are asking you to focus your attention on the Second “R” and look for opportunities to REUSE. Reusing items to shrink or eliminate the amount of waste that gets landfilled is becoming more important as we look to the future of waste disposal.
Take the Pledge
This year, we celebrate the 5th Annual Refill NOT Landfill month with the City of Lebanon. Once again, the Hanover Consumer Cooperative (the Co-op) is partnering with the City for this 2022 Refill NOT Landfill campaign. Refillable/Reusable prizes will be awarded randomly each week during the month of April and selected from those who commit to Refill. Simply commit to refilling and reducing waste for the month of April to be entered in the drawings.
The online pledge form is now available and winners will be announced each week. Take a look at the generous gift bags being offered and find out how you can participate by visiting LebanonNH.gov/Refill.
REUSE
REUSING can be easily done with a bit of planning and commitment. For 2022, we are encouraging participants to pull out all the stops. This year, we want to see people commit to reusing a minimum of two items: to include water bottles, travel mugs for coffee, cloth/reusable grocery bags, packing a lunch, and/or buying in bulk with reusable containers.
For the month of April, carry a reusable water bottle and fill it up at the tap. Other examples of REUSE include grocery shopping, enjoying a freshly brewed cup of coffee, or consuming your daily intake of water. When grocery shopping, do what the stores are encouraging, and “bring your own” bags. When stopping for coffee, many local coffee shops will give you a discount when you use your own mug. Drinking water is very healthy, have a refillable bottle handy, and fill it as needed. In one year, using a reusable water bottle prevents the creation of nearly 1,500 plastic bottles.
The Refill NOT Landfill Proclamation
On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Lebanon Mayor Tim McNamara will read a proclamation designating April as “Refill NOT Landfill” month. The City of Lebanon encourages residents to use refillable travel mugs and water bottles to reduce waste that would ultimately be disposed of in the Lebanon landfill. Please help us extend the life of our landfill for future Lebanon residents.
Take the Refill NOT Landfill pledge today.
