Board & Committee Members Needed!

Would you like to make a meaningful contribution to the community? Boards and Committees are an important part of our local government and help weave the fabric of our beautiful City. Their success is entirely reliant upon the selfless dedication of our volunteers along with the support of City staff.

Board of Assessors

Currently, we are seeking one regular member and one alternate member to serve on the Board of Assessors.

The Board of Assessors is the decision-making authority for all real property assessments in the City. They ensure equitable, defensible assessments for all taxpayers in Lebanon, including decisions on property tax abatement requests, exemptions, and changes to property values. The Board meets as needed and conducts business regularly, therefore a full roster is needed for optimal efficiency. Does this interest you? Please apply online.

Please contact the Assessing Department for further information.

Heritage Commission

Currently, we are seeking one regular member and three alternate members to serve on the Heritage Commission.

The Heritage Commission is responsible for the proper recognition, use, and protection of resources, tangible or intangible, primarily man-made, that are valued for their historic, cultural, aesthetic, or community significance within their natural, build, or cultural context. Is this something that interests you? Please apply online.

Please contact the Planning & Development Department for further information.

Planning Board

Currently, we are seeking one regular member to serve on the Planning Board.

The Planning Board is responsible for reviewing all new construction, except one and two-family homes, and subdivisions of land occurring in the City. Reviews are carried out under Site Plan and Subdivision Regulations as established by the Board. In addition, the Board, reviews, revises, and adopts the City Master Plan, which is a critical tool for our City. Do you have a vision for the City of Lebanon? Please apply online.

Please contact the Planning & Development Department for further information.

Zoning Board of Adjustment

Currently, we are seeking two alternate members to serve on the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment, pursuant to New Hampshire law, hears and decides appeals from administrative decisions, special exceptions, and variances. This Board votes and decides on these applications as they conform to the City Zoning Ordinance, and other applicable City and State regulations. Would you like to volunteer? Please apply online.

Please contact the Planning & Development Department for further information.

Alternate Positions on Other Boards and Committees

There are also alternate member positions available on several other Boards and Committees. Alternate members step in when there is not a quorum of regular members present for a meeting, which helps ensure that business continues uninterrupted. Being an alternate member is a great way to start volunteering. And, when a regular member steps down from a Board or Committee, alternate members are given preference to fill the vacancies.

  • Arts & Culture Commission - 3 Alternates
  • Conservation Commission - 1 Alternate
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission - 2 Alternates
  • Zoning Board of Adjustment - 1 Alternate
Are you interested in serving on one of these Boards or Commissions? Please apply online.
