After a rigorous, multi-step selection process of several tremendously strong candidates, the Town of Sunapee’s Board of Selectmen are pleased to announce a conditional appointment has been extended to Lt. Emmons Neill Cobb to serve as the town’s next chief of police.

Lt. Neill Cobb has served as the Town of Sunapee’s interim Chief of Police since May 20, 2022, when long-time Chief David Cahill retired.

Cobb has been with Sunapee’s Police Department for the last 18 years.  Under his leadership, the Sunapee Police Department will continue to expand their use of technology as well as implement a robust training schedule offering officers the necessary tools and skills they need to continue to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Sunapee.

The Board of Selectmen and Town Manager are confident that Lt. Cobb’s local knowledge coupled with his extensive law enforcement career are the right complement to continue to build upon the strengths of the department and to bring it to the next level.

Cobb’s official start date will be set once background checks are completed. Background checks for sworn officers take between four and six weeks.
