The Bristol Conservation Commission will be conducting a review / study of the Newfound Lake water quality issues, within the Town of Bristol. The impetus for this work arose from the many questions posed regarding the “Sewer to the Lake” project and the actual / perceived need for a sewer based on solid information about the lake’s water quality. While the sewer project has been placed on hold at this time, the Commission anticipates that eventually the discussion about having a sewer will re-emerge. As a result, we hope to be proactively prepared to provide the taxpayers of Bristol with guidance on making a decision on a sewer at the lake, but more importantly to identify any previously determined methods to protect Newfound Lake’s water quality. Once identified the community can move forward with other protective measures regardless of the issue of a sewer. The Commission fully realizes that there has been a significant amount of work done already by various organizations, engineering firms, the Newfound Lake Region Association and the N.H. Department of Environmental Services.
To conduct this study the Commission will form a committee consisting of Commission members, Bristol residents, the Newfound Lake Region Association, etc.
The Commission wants to hear your opinions regarding this issue. If you have comments regarding this committee’s work, or specific information pertaining to the water quality of Newfound Lake please send an e-mail to landuseadmin@bristolnh.gov.
