A group of City of Lebanon staff, elected officials, and committee members participated in a training workshop on Monday, September 26 presented by Braver Angels, titled "Managing Difficult Conversations with Constituents". Braver Angels is a national movement to bridge the partisan divide. This training provided skills to the participants to help them connect with their constituents and be able to better explain their views on difficult topics and controversial issues. Participants practiced four primary skills, acknowledging another person's view, appreciating a person for voicing their concern to you, finding something to agree on, if possible, and then providing your perspective. With these skills, participants can actively work with others within the city to find areas of commonality or agreement, share views in a way to be heard, and listen to different perspectives.
