Plastic Recycling Confusion Continues

Everyone wants to do the right thing.  Recycling is part of “doing the right thing”.  It is simple, but sometimes can be confusing. In the past, we all looked for #1 or #2 on the bottom of a plastic container. Now there are so many more numbers out there.

To reduce confusion, don’t look for the number. Simply look for a shape: Bottle, Tub, Jug, or Jar. These include soda bottles, water bottles, sports drinks, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, milk jugs, peanut butter, and/or jelly.  These are the only kinds of plastic we are looking for in the plastic bin at the Lebanon Recycling Center.  Any color container is accepted except black.

Items such as flowerpots, plant trays, children's toys, large Rubbermaid tubs, 5-gallon pails, any black plastic, hinged plastic containers, utensils, hoses, plastic coat hangers, Styrofoam and bags are NOT recyclable at the Lebanon Recycling Center.  When you throw the wrong thing in the bin, it has to be removed and thrown away.  Please take your time and help us by recycling correctly.

Try our Recycling App - The app allows patrons to scan their waste items to better understand what is acceptable and unacceptable at the Lebanon Recycling Center.
